'Direct' Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship For IMGs |
|
To understand what I mean by "Direct", Read this first. The prestigious Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center at Houston, TX offers a year-long Addiction Psychiatry fellowship which will for IMGs who have completed residencies in either US or have equivalent training from outside US, in either psychiatry, internal medicine, Family medicine or Adolescent medicine. This fellowship can be especially good offering both one year hands-on clinical experience as well as great research experience for IMG psychiatry residents who are looking for getting into Phychiatry residencies in the US.
As posted by the prorgam executive:
"We have a new fellowship at the VA in Houston, Texas, which is mostly geared to international medical graduates who have done some kind of residency in their country and want to get into US psych residencies but haven't yet.
At the conclusion of the training, fellows will be able to screen, diagnose, and treat patients with substance abuse and mental health disorders; conduct translational research in the area of addiction medicine and apply those results to improving clinical treatment; and understand the special needs of addiction patients from a systems perspective (i.e. care delivery models)"
