July Already ! Purchased an ERAS Token Yet ?

The "token" is nothing but a big unique number that you will need before you can create your AAMC ID. The AAMC ID, is turn, is used to access to your MyERAS i.e. the online Residency Application system. The same ID will also be used later at NRMP.org to participate in the Residency match, for which you will need to register separately before December
Yea ! we are doctors, we NEED TO HAVE every process as ridiculously complex and arcane as it can be ! Now It would be too shamefully simple to have one USMLE logon ID to do all the work for you - registering and taking exams, applying with ERAS, participating in the Match ....maybe Google could take over managing ECFMG-MyERAS-NRMP processes too ? ;-)
Q. How to buy an ERAS Token ?
1. Goto www.ECFMG.org
2. Click on 'OASIS'
3. Login to OASIS with your USMLE id and Password
4. Next, eyeball that Left hand menu, click on "ERAS Support Services"
5. Select ERAS Residency Token
6. Agree with the agreement / disclosures
7. Next verify your contact information and then proceed to pay for it online. Price was $75 earlier, now increased to 90$
After a couple of days, logon back to OASIS --> ECFMG Support Services --> Residency Token and you should see the 'Token'.
Note: If you had applied the previous year and did not match, your AAMC ID will not change, but you will still need to purchase a new ERAS Token and re-register for AAMC ID

Post Your Comment !not as yet but do we have to buy it now or it can be done in august
Buy it now so that you can send in your documents early for scanning and hence apply on time in Sept
Thank you for this useful blog. You really help tremendously!
I have question for you and woudl appreciate your opinion very much. Do you think its better to
1/apply in September with CK and CS scores and steo 1 scheduled for October
2/apply when take step1 and "awaiting results?
3/apply only when receive results of step 1 which would be end of October, beginning of November even??
Thank you for your help!!!
- If your step 2 CK scores are 90-plus & if u generally have a strong application, then go ahead and apply plus write an email to each program that you are taking the step 1 in Oct
- If your scores were pretty low and feel that there is chance of postponing Step 1 too due to lack of prep, then practical advise would be apply next year rather than wasting application money this year
- If scores are decent and you are confident about taking the step 1, then apply anyways and make sure you write a quick short email to all programs when you 1. take your step 1 and 2. when you get your scores.
Either ways, before you apply with just step 2Ck and CS, I would certain consider first calling programs and making sure they will consider your app with just CK and CS for the moment and if you should apply by 1st Sept - that will help you screen and save $$$. ANd call now ! As app dates come close, the phones will be busier and the program coordinators will be less helpful and pleasant :)
I have a question regarding the letter of recommendation.
Are they supposed to be posted from india by my professor or iam i to post it to the eras.
This is the thing , I have the lor with me here in usa.... so for my professors to post it, it will be a longer process.
