Good Luck to the 2008 Residency Match Applicants !

With the Rank Order Lists now submitted for the 2008 Match, how many of you feel like that guy on the picture above - a unique mix of anxiety, excitement, wishing others luck and hoping for good luck for self ? If not yet, you will pretty soon... as the Match day nears ;-)

Long time ago, when I was low & depressed, a good friend presented me with an excellent book called "Being Happy" by Andrew Matthews. I recollect it had a chapter which spoke about how a mind attracts what it fears - like thinking "I hope nothing goes wrong with new shirt" and then a bird poops..lol. It gave no scientific explanations but made a lot of sense in the way it presented experiences. :-) While I am not suggesting the surreal, I do believe that wishing good and hoping good plays it part by some unproven path making things around us work to facilitate getting what one wishes for ...lets call it the cosmo-cerebral path :-)

So ! I wish all USMLEtoMD readers and the Non-USMLEtoMD readers very good luck and happy thoughts.

One would wonder if luck played much of a role since the 'match' is done by a computer algorithm that follows inbuilt rules of programming logic...well, where you were placed on the residency program's rank orders lists and where others placed the program you want on their lists would surely have some luck component hidden in it. Luck is often underestimated in the role it plays in one's accomplishments !
