RESIDENCY MATCH PROCESS: A SYNOPSIS

Here's a birds-eye-view of how your Match Year is gonna look - I have outlined an overall synopsis of the process..the Details will be covered in time in the "Step-By-Step" section.

[In the following, note that you must endeavour to complete steps 1 to 6 by the last week of August !]

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

1. Apply for ERAS Token through OASIS (Usually Released July 1st each year): 95$

2. Once ERAS Token is granted, register on MyERAS using the Token

3. Registration gives you your AAMC ID for login in to MyERAS and allows you to set a password.

4. Mail Required Documents to ERAS for scanning (Dean's Letter, Letters of Recommendation, etc.) - You will receive an email from ERAS about this !

5. Start Completing the Common Application Format (CAF) on MyERAS and type in your Personal Statements

6. Prepare your Selected Programs List By Specialty and State and assign your Personal Statements and Letters of Recommendation to each of these

7. "Apply" to selected programs and pay online when ERAS opens for transmitting applications to programs (usually September 1st)

8. Attend Interviews from September to February

9. Deadline for Applications Ends In Dec for most programs - the "Late" Deadline Ends in March 2007

10. Register for the NRMP Match using AAMC ID (Usually in December): 60 $

Hi...the ERAS Token will be updated on your OASIS itself - and you will receive an email from myERAS for the document uploads in a few days too - u dont have to do anything, they will send it on their own

U may be late for the programs in the high-traffic northeast programs that have already sent out invites like brooklyn - but there is still a bulk of programs that wont be downloading applications until september end or even early October - so go for it with all you got :-) g/l

Hi.. nice website. u ssaid the interviews r held from Sept-feb.. Wut do the IMGs do? I mean do they hv to stay in US for 6 months for interviews? If yes then on wut visa for that long?

Digitaldoc, MD said ... (October 18, 2006 4:43 PM) :

Interview Invites are sent out to candidates and you can choose the dates from the options depending on what';s convenient for u - IMGs working , studying here continue to do so and take breaks for the interviews as they come up - while those visiting from outside can time their entry to cover all the interviews and also hang around with friends, relatives for more.

hi i took my eras token jul1 .ive logged into oasis its already been 11 days any i still havent recieved any sort of token number or password what do i do

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (July 10, 2008 3:56 PM) :

When you logon to OASIS and revisit the ERAS TOKEN link, you should see it updated there itself, they do not 'send' a token like an email or anything.

But the last year too, some people had delays - make sure your payment was accepted

Blogger yaddanapudi said ... (July 10, 2008 8:28 PM) :

payment been accepted. thanks digitaldoc.i know you must get this a lot but great site dude

DigitalDoc, thanx a lot for your help.

I have one further question concerning DEADLINES.

I read this about a series of programs in the web

Quota Change Deadline January 31, 2009
Late Registration Deadline February 25, 2009
Match Day March 19, 2009

What does Late registration deadline and quota change deadline mean?

Does this mean that I have time till February 25 to receive my scores from step 2ck and cs and complete my application?

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (August 7, 2009 5:21 PM) :

Quota change deadline applies to the residency programs participating in the residency match, before they register their seats/positions in the match, they have to confirm the number of their positions that they want to release for the match and that's the quota they are referring to. This helps programs give out prematches until the deadline and then enroll the rest of the positions for match. This was the basis for the method to determine how many prematches a program gives out - like I covered here

Blogger Digitaldoc, MD said ... (August 7, 2009 5:27 PM) :

The Late registration refers to both programs and applicants registering for the match. Note that applying to programs via ERAS and Registering for the match are two different things that need separate registration at separate websites. You register with AAMC to use the ERAS feature to send applications. If you get no good prematch offers, then you can go ahead and register for the match by November 30th. Some people still have interviews pending in Dec-Jan and hope to get prematches, or there may be late exam takers, so may decide to decide about match partipation later - thats the late registration deadline and would cost a $50 extra. If you miss that deadline, your match dreams are over. Hence its safer to register with NRMP by November - if prematched after that, you can withdraw from the match
