Try Scramble Or the Next Match ?

Wise grandmas say Life is full of options and new directions and how our life eventually turns out depends on the choices we make & directions we take. I have had a love-hate relation with options in life - hating them on the USMLE steps ;-) and loving them in so many other places.


So what's your direction gonna be for the scramble ? For one thing, you can never make the Post-match scramble your "goal" and then plan astutely around it and make sacrifices - coz' the guarantees are dismally low as compared to the match. Now I am talking about people in situations where they might rush through USMLE Steps just to be in time for the scramble. Now that's a bad decision. Scores are always king in the Residency game. Physicians are a very academically impressionable breed ;-) and PDs and the faculty on the resident selection are physicians too ...

Thus if the option is scramble or the match and if either Step 1 or Step 2 CK is the sacrificial goat - then Match is the way to go. Take your time on the step and aim for a good score.
