Post-Match Scramble Process

This is how it will work:
1. NRMP publishes list of Unfilled programs on NRMP.org (u will see those after you login). This list is 'Dynamic' in the sense that it updates every one hour to tell you the tally of seats remaining.
2. The first thing you do is make that call to your programs in the order of preference! Some people 'employ' multiple friends to make calls via their cell phones as soon as the list is published to improve chances to get through. As soon as someone gets through, you take the phone and start talking.
3. Say hello, introduce yourself and that you are calling for a possible residency position
4. They are expecting calls for the scramble, so you wont really need to labor too much on explaining why you called. Time is short for both you and them anyways.
5. They are ready with their questions to screen applicants like score, visa, experience etc - so be ready to rattle out that information when you make that call.
6. It's tough to have a reason to smile during this - but yet I insist, Smile while you speak - it will show as politeness and confidence in your speech.
7. After the initial screening, if they like your profile, they may have you interviewed by the program director or another faculty and you will also be asked to submit your application + Documents or the interview may occur after you submit your application. How to submit this stuff? - The choice rests entirely with the program ! They may either ask you to Fax the documents or they may ask you to submit application via ERAS. Yeah - it is upto the programs to decide how they want it.
8. Using ERAS, you can apply to only a total of 30 New programs and 15 old programs where you had applied already during the application season, free of charge. No - even if you wanted to shell out some bucks to apply for more programs, ERAS will not allow more than 30 new and 15 old. If Fax or Email, then you got to fax all those papers or Email scanned documents - but there's a smarter way to fax them up right from the comfort of your home using the Internet. Read the post on faxing here.
9. If you are selected, you will hear back from them usually before the end of the same day. Fingers crossed - X X X :-)

Post Your Comment !Dear digital doc,
During scramble once the list of unmatched positions is released by NRMP, can I fax my documents to all the positions of my interest or should I fax documents only after I manage to talk / get interviewed by my programs of interest?
1. ECFMG Had specifically issued a warning about fax-spaming your resumes to programs..and programs may have been instructed to consider this behavior as a violation by candidate.
2. Many programs now accept scramble application submissions via ERAS instead of fax.
Hence, its better to get to talk first and then fax if needed.or stick to ERAS if the program wishes so
Thank u digital doc. I guess the same holds true for ERAS use.......that is transmit documents through ERAS only after speaking to the program of interest. I was in dilemma ...whether or not to seek services of the commercial scramble service providers who claim to send the applicant's profile to all unfilled positions within 30 min of release of the unfilled position list.
That's true - better to first get to talk to the program and then apply only if they agree to review
dear digital doc , do we have to talk to those programs now that we have ranked at R3 system , or on the scramble day & then fax the documents . Another question for u , as all my documents are with eras , including the LORS & MSPE and i do not have any copies of it , do i have to get back those documents in order to fax to the programs ,or will Eras transfer the same ?thnks in advance
One big flaw with the Return of Document Services is that the return of documents cannot be guaranteed before the scramble. This is what ECFMG website specifically said as of Jan 2008:
"ECFMG cannot guarantee the return of your documents prior to the Scramble. Programs to which you have applied will be able to retrieve electronic copies of your submitted documents using the ERAS Program Directors’ Workstation"
But thank fully many programs these days would like you to apply via ERAS instead of direct fax.
What's in your hands is to apply for the RODS as early as you can in February. Secondly, if you will not be in the USA you might wanna have it shipped to someone WITHIN the USA - so that the person can scan them for you in time for the scramble.
