Are You Ready To Scramble ?

If you look up the word 'Scramble' on Dictionary.com, one of the entries say, " To struggle or contend frantically in order to get something".

The post-match scramble is exactly that! And the race is about to begin...the insane flurry of phone calls, fax transmissions and prayers...

Some of you have no interviews so far and have set your eyes and hearts on the Post-Match scramble. Even for those who did have interviews, wisdom dictates that you ought to be ready for the post-match scramble too - just in case... [god forbid :-)]

Should you take your chances in the Scramble ?

You often hear chances are so low. Well - I say this to many people, A chance is a chance only if the chance is taken, if not attempted at all - its No Chance, just blank talk ! So even if you hear that the chances of getting a residency through a scramble are like 0.01% , I feel even the slightest chance to a residency seat is worth it for the amount of money, sweat, stress and time you have gone through. A scramble is all about being prepared and being equipped. Get Sporty, give it a shot, play along ! How will you get a door open unless you knock on it atleast once ?

Answer 1 : Hello, my sincere advice would be to concentrate on getting a good score without getting franctic and worrying about the scramble - the probability of getting a scramble position is too low and unreliable to risk your step 2 CK score on that one. The score takes 3 weeks to report from the first wednesday after your exam date - and then certificate would take another 2 weeks to arrive.

Answer 2: Fast Transfer of Documents is certainly important, but wuts more important is getting to talk with the program coordinator ! Each person can arrange himself/herself for a fast transfer of documents by uploading the document images on a web-server and then giving them the link to it after u get to talk to them and they like you credentials. I shall be coming up with a post soon on how to manage the scramble soon.

hey digidoc!!
i'm in the same situation of the guy who has posted above, flunkin my ck.. so i'm plannin to give it on 17th jan..well by the time i get ecfmg certification it would be feb 21st or so.. i wanted to know if i'd be eligible for postmatch..also wanted 2 know if the agencies which claim to help us during scramble is worth tryin?

Hi - yes, u will be 'eligible' for the post-match as long as u are ECFMG certified by then and have a copy of ur certificate ready in hand to fax out.

I am not entirely sure of how effective the agencies are - the people I knew who succeeded in the scramble did it on their own. The agencies however maybe in a better position to know where to target your applications as they may have the lists of unfilled programs from the previous programs with them- usually the same programs go unfilled as the previous year

what happens if you pass step 2 ck and dont have the ecfmg certificate at the time of scramble, are you sill okay to get a position in the scramble?

at the time of scramble - PDs will mostly want candidates to be certified and will want to see the certificate copy too

Hi, digitaldoc!
I need your advice. I am going to participate in Post Match Scramle this year. I would like to know what you think about services like IMGresidency.com, IMGprep.com, FMGamerica.com, electronicresidency.com, residencymatching.com. They offer to create my personal website, fax and email my documents to all unfilled programs. I will need to pay about 1250$ for two specialties. Is it worth to hire one of them? Please, reply. Thank you.

I dont have any direct information on the usefulness of these things - but that you will need to find out is how they will function - will they expect you to call? will they flood the unfilled programs with faxes of your documents, etc. and then decide which one you feel most comfortable with. I shall try to scout around for more information.

Thank you for your reply. They told me I would wait for the calls. They will send my website to all programs in specialties I wanted two weeks before the match and will fax and email my documents with link of my website to all unfilled programs in Scramble day.
But they want too much money for that.
Please, reply. Thank you.

Can anyone post the website for non ERAS listed residency programs. I heard that there are residency programs that match outside of NRMP match. Your help is greatly appreciated
