Importance Of Advance Prep
With a rank order list, a lot is left to speculation about where he or she would match - or even worse, will there be a match at all ? It is a dicy situation indeed but that's how the system is designed for the moment. On the other hand, the Program Directors submit a ranked list of about 120 candidates depending on the size of the program - after interviewing about 150-200 candidates (depending on the number of positions). Fortunately a post-match is allowed to circumvent this problem.

Let me cite an example - 2 years ago, an IMG girl from India could not make it anywhere in the match with scores of 92/94 - was quick to apply during the post-match scramble and got into the one of the top-ranked University program for Family Practice !
Soooooo my dear dear docs, preparation in advance is the key. Let us just believe in "Hope for the best , but prepare for the worst"
This blog is to help you with just that :-)

Hi FMG,
the scramble is even more unpredictable than the match. there are different things that various programs look for and its always best to take all your chances !

Hi digidoc. Thanks for all your help.. You are doing a fantastic job!!!
I have a question regarding the agenices who will do the job for you on the scramble day. How would they know the unfilled spots? Is that illegal? Does the programs know if your application are coming from those agencies, and would it count against you? DO you really advise it, becasue they have all your personal info. and you do not know these people!!
Another question, would you fax your application regardless, or you have to call the program first, and if they said go ahead and then you fax, to save you some time!!!
I also read in your forum, that ERAS does not apply for scramble, but on the website, they says that we can apply up to 30 programs for free??? SHould we use that? or it is a waste of time??
I appreciate it if you can give me any info... sorry for the long list of questions??
I am awaitng your reply, thank you again for all your help...have a great day...

If match is going to be on 16th of march how come we will know if we are matched or not during scramble (14-16th of march). Are matched people going to receive some kind of information telling them that they secured their positions before match results, or what :?:

The 'Match' is on 13th March - meaning people will know if they matched or not. On 16th people will know WHERE they matched. During the scramble, if selected you will be sent the contract right away or will be promised a position. g/l

The agencies are legal - what they offer is faster phone calls and faster application faxing since they employ a trained group of people to do the same. They get the unfilled list the same time as others do, but their action time maybe faster. The applicant merely has to wait for phone calls, if any of the programs are interested. Again - there can never be guarantees, even if the agencies say so
First call the programs and send yoru stuff if they want it - you dont want to clog their machines and piss them off :-)
yes you can use ERAS - only 30 applications for free and no more...leave that choice to the programs.

Hi I had a question, whether we can send emails to all programs 2 weeks ahead of match to consider my application, in case there are unfilled positions.?
Or is it a violation of match process?
Thanks.
