Tips to show your Interest in the Residency Program
To some extent, showing how much you love someone is often vital to win back some love for yourself ;-) Same holds true for residency programs. These tips will be an ongoing compilation and if you would like to help me build-up on them, leave me a comment below with your tip :-)These are 'indirect' ways of indicating your interest.
During Interview:
1. Preparing well with what questions YOU will be asking and asking some smart questions that reflect good knowledge about the program. Don't go overboard and be overzealous with a huge list ..LOL...3 to 5 good pertinent questions per faculty is nice.
2. It's a good idea to study the faculty profiles on the program website and decide to request them to allow you to meet a faculty that matches your interest and background. Here, I imply a faculty that will not be interviewing you. Usually, programs will email you a list of faculty that will be interviewing you.
3. Suggesting to the program director your willingness to spend a few weeks voluntarily observing at the program before the residency begins
After Interview:
4. Not forgetting to write a thank you letter to the program promptly after you interview. Here's a sample that also inquires about prematches. If you are not sure about a prematch then, leave out the pre-match part.
5. Keeping the communication alive and ongoing - like updating the program director about any new worthy experience you get or a poster you will be presenting. Don't bug them with stuff like you are marrying, etc. LOL. And it probably ain't a bad idea to wish them during the biggie holidays like Thanksgiving and X-mas.
6. Inquiring about second visits, provided you are sure they are possible for you to do so.
7. Asking decently about pre-matches after a few weeks post-interview - if no response, never bring up the topic again. Sample Email to inquire about prematches
Before Match:
8. Mailing in a decent greeting card to the program director 2-3 weeks before the match, thanking them for considering you, wishing them luck on the match, that you are ranking them tops and mentioning that you really hope to make it to their program. Here are some neat Thank-You Greeting Cards

Have now put up a post on "why
this city" part here.
About the program, identify your points based on the program size, faculty size, clinical experience & train, research experiences, fellowships, % residents going for fellowships, teaching opportunities, etc.
Hi thanks for your work
I have a question on what you suggested regarding requesting observership to the PD at time of interview. Is it a good idea to ask for it before I appear for my interview?
Thans
You surely could, but I would probably leave it until after the interview to strongly indicate my interest that developed after the interview.
thanks for your reply ,I have a friend doing a residency at the place where i got the interview .How can i take the most advantage of this.
