Why did you choose Neurology ?

When I picture a Neurologist, it's a thinking man/woman - thinking about where an individual's motherboard went wrong, which circuits have fired up or are they. So put on that Neurologist braincap and indentify which of these responses suit your style the most. Then get into that surreal, transcendental phase of the mind and hypnotize yourself to come out with brilliant and genuine reasons why you feel that the only reason God sent you on earth was to be a neurologist..LOL
"As human beings we are more curious about ourselves than about anything else, and this is a research enterprise that takes you right into the heart of the problem of who we are. I got hooked on neurology after examining my very first patient in medical school. He was a man with a pseudo-bulbar palsy (a kind of stroke), who alternately laughed and wept uncontrollably every few seconds. It struck me as an instant replay of the human condition. Were these just mirthless joy and crocodile tears, I wondered? Or was he actually feeling alternately happy and sad, the same way a manic-depressive might, but on a compressed timescale?"

[Yeah - having a good story to tell while answering a question, is ALWAYS exciting to the interviewer]
"I chose neurology because there was so much wonderful information to learn about the brain and everything connected to it. When I started out, you couldn’t image the brain or examine cells in culture, like you can today. Nevertheless, it was absolutely wonderful stuff.”

"I chose neurology as a profession because the brain is the most interesting part of the body. The others just don't compare. It's what makes us human. Neurological disorders are really fascinating, and the future holds exciting possibilities as a result of the merging of other disciplines such as neuropsychiatry and neuropathology with neurology"

"I chose Neurology because it is the essence of the person: the most important, fascinating, and elusive body system. I've never regretted my choice. I like the freedom and challenge of my career, the daily stimulation and novelty, the fact that I continue to learn each day, that I never get bored, and that I can travel and meet wonderful new people on a regular basis. From a practical point it pays quite well, and it gives me great personal satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment."

[Well - you could cut off the income part during the residency Interivew..lol]
More possible response points:
- Besides the enigma and fascination the field holds for me, it suits my analytical, thinking personality.
- I am all fired up by the technical and research options available in neurology and I can't wait to be an innovative neurologist
