INTERVIEW TIP # 10: KNOW YOURSELF

I bet atleast 90% of you have experienced that irritating popup from Tickle.com asking you to test your IQ ! Maybe some of already tried, but I did manage to find something useful on that site which we could use on Residency Interviews or for that matter, any career Interviews - Assessing your own personality strengths for a career.

They say knowing oneself is often tougher than trying to know the people around you. I did take the "Job Asset And Strenghts Profiler" - JASPER. Click Here to take it yourself for free. (The Test was probably purchased by Monster.com from Tickle - Thanks for a reader to point that out, link is now updated)

At the end of the test, you get a summary profile of your strengths with good power keywords to use on Interviews - and that's exactly what you can talk about when you are asked a question on the Interview such as : "What are your strengths / weaknesses" or "Tell me about yourself".

It won't be a bad idea if you mention this test which you to took to get an "unbiased, objective assessment of self" :-)

Here's a Sample Summary Report that was generated for me:

Hey ,
I know this has nothing to so with this article but wanted some advice.I have my Step-1 scores with me now and will hav my step 2 done with completely with the results out by middle of December.I had realised that 2008 with a step 3 will be my best chance for a good residency so havent applied yet this year.
But I heard about Prelimnary positions and is it possible to apply to them and do they sponsor H1's.

Preliminary positions are no less competitive since thats how most AMGs wishing to get into Radiology , PMR , etc.have to do. H1 is not easy for Prelim positions , unless they are integrated with programs..for example : Neurology

Hi! With regards to the question "can you tell me about yorself?", should I be mentioning the medical aspects of my life or should I just stick to aspects that show who I am as a person (likes, interests, relationships) because I think they already know that I'm a doctor and they already have my transcripts. I think they are more interested in knowing the person behind the doctor. Am I making sense here? Thanks
