INTERVIEW TIP # 6: PUTTING GOOGLE NEWS TO WORK

What am I talking about ? Google News and Residency Interviews ? Did I hear you say "You Nuts Digitaldoc ? "
Actually, this happens to be a tip I picked up at a career building seminar I happened to attend while doing my Masters here in the US. Type in the name of the institution on Google News search and you should see many news article relevant to the institution - I feel we can extend this to residency interviews as well.
For Example a Google News look up of Case Western Reserve University may dig out the news article that speaks about how the researchers there have successfully identified the molecule causing age-related macular degeneration. Of course, in time that will be stale news and you will some other news topping the search results. Now, if you were to take this to the interview table at Case Western, you can surely use it to break the ice ..like "Yeah..I happened to read this terrific news about your University ......" or even bring it up in the middle of the interview.
A small tip - I agree - but it does help creating an impression that you did your research well about the place you came to interview. So, it wouldn't hurt to quickly look up news about the place you gonna interview at , before you leave your house.

pssst : How many of you are addicted to google news like me ? Lol
